CHAKWAL: At least 22 persons were injured in crossfire between two religious groups in Choa Saidan Shah on Sunday, where eight people were injured in armed clashes on Saturday. A complete strike was observed on Sunday and all markets were closed to protest against the negative attitude of administration. The city was handed over to the Rangers, who started patrolling in the city. Police arrested more than 60 people of both sects while a case had been registered against more than 200 activists from both sides. The rival groups also burnt vehicles and different shops. Meanwhile, Regional Police Officer Hamid Mukhtar Gondal visited Choa Saidan Shah and suspended SHO Badr Munir, while DPO Ali Mohsin appointed Inspector Afzal as the new SHO of Choa Saiden Shah police station. source:

CHAKWAL, Jan 20: The board of governors (BoG) of the Government Postgraduate College at its maiden meeting here on Thursday approved Rs5 million for the development of the college. Besides, it also sanctioned appointment of 18 lecturers to run the new BS (honours) programme. Sharing the details of the meeting with this correspondent, Principal Dr Sajjad Ahmed said no teacher of the college would be disturbed. He said the meeting was held peacefully as he had taken all the lecturers of the college into confidence a day earlier. However, sources told this correspondent that the meeting was marred by casual attitude of its members. They said the BoG was to meet at 11am but Commissioner Rawalpindi Zahid Saeed`s too much late arrival and absence of 11 out of the 16 members raised many eyebrows. The items, including flour, ghee, sugar, tea, biscuits, mineral water, medicines, clothes, blankets and quilts, etc., were collected by different educational institutions but they have been lying in a room of Government Postgraduate College hostel. Well placed sources said the room where the items have been kept was not locked giving hostel administration an easy access to food items. After the natural catastrophe, Punjab Government had ordered public sector educational institutions to collect relief goods for the flood victims. Relief camps were set up in educational institutions where teachers and students donated many relief items generously for this noble cause and the items were handed over to the Assistant Director of Colleges (ADC) Prof Liaquat Ali Kahoot.
