Population : 13,893 Male : 6,996 Female : 6,897 Literacy ratio(%) : 66.6   Religion  Muslims : 13,540 Others : 353 Bhaun  is a town in Chakwal District in the Punjab province of Pakistan 12 kilometres away from the district capital Chakwal. In 2007 Pakistan Railways announced the resumption of the Bhaun to Chakwal service.   However, no progress has been made to this effect as of February 2009. The importance of resumption of this service and extending it to salt range in Kallar Kahar area will bring significant commercial advantages for the region as the cement factories in the area can use rail for their merchandise.

Another important name is Malik Muhammad Safdar Faizi, Advocate who is also the author of several books. Ch Yasar Abbas Khokhar also wrote a book on history of Bhaun. And an Army Shaheed Faheem Zafar .Book named "Shaeed Watan aur Tarekhe Bhaun". Ghulam Akbar wrote a book on complete Bhaun history named "Dastan-e-Bhaun".

The fossils are reportedly 14 million years old and belong to the primitive animal species which had lower denture with undistributed set of teeth attached to the gums. This terrible beast is known to have survived between the Miocene epoch (from 25 million to 13 million years ago; appearance of grazing mammals) to the Pleistocene epoch (from two million to 11 thousand years ago; extensive glaciation of the northern hemisphere; the time of human evolution). Its ancestors or descendants can not yet be ascertained due to unavailability of fossil records with which a chain of identification could be testified. A serious threat to people of chakwal, 7 test positive for dengue in Chakwal

CHAKWAL, Sept 16: Seven people have tested positive while 33 are suspected of dengue in Chakwal, Executive District Officer Health Dr. Nasir Mehmood told Dawn on Friday. “The majority of the suspected are those who had traveled to Lahore and other affected areas during Eid holidays and contracted the virus there,” EDO Dr. Nasir maintained. However, unlike last year, the situation seems far better and under control. “We are doing our best to create awareness among the masses by distributing pamphlets, holding walks and through media,” he maintained. He said that health department had fumigated the vulnerable areas during spring season. “We have tried our best to eliminate the mosquitoes in their breeding stage by fogging,” he claimed. Yellow Cab Scheme Government of Punjab has launched Yellow Taxicab Scheme for the unemployed people of province. 20,000 taxis will be distributed among qualified applicants. 40 percent quota has been allocated for 11 districts of Southern Punjab. Transparency of this project will be ensured by provincial government through computerized balloting in the presence of media. According to details, 2500 taxis will be distributed every month so the total 20,000 taxis will be distributed in a period of eight months. Punjab Cabinet has approved Yellow Cab Scheme. Suzuki Mehran VX and Suzuki Bolan VX in green and black colors would be given to the eligible applicants on easy installments.
