NA-61 by-poll today

The polling for By-Election in National Assembly Constituency NA-61, Chakwal II is going to be held on Wednesday (today).
The Provincial Election Commissioner, Punjab, has established control room in his office to receive the complaints and preliminary result of the by-poll.
The designated staff will be available in the control room till the receipt of preliminary results. Media and other people can contact the established control room for the by-poll of NA-61.

By-Elections

By-elections are scheduled to be held on October 20, 2010. Election activities in the by-elections of NA-61 Chakwal-2 gaining momentum as Election Commission of Pakistan have announced a new schedule for this constituency. A total of 26 candidates have filed their nomination papers when the election schedule was previously announced but Lahore High Court issued stay orders against this by-election.

Finally, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has awarded ticket to Sardar Mumtaz Tamman for NA 61 (Chakwal II) by-election. The decision came after a high level meeting chaired by Chief Minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif at Punjab House Rawalpindi on September 24, 2010. The decision came after the realization by PML(N) high command that Malik Kabir would not be able to win the election as his main contestant Malik Salim Iqbal was an influential person.

PML-N had first given ticket to Malik Kabir, an ordinary worker, ignoring Sardars, Maliks, Awaans and chronic leaders of the area. Malik Saleem Iqbal, the veteran of Tehsil Talagang politics is contesting this election as an independent candidate as PML(Q) is backing him. Sardar Mansoor Hayat Tamman, another ex-MNA has started his election campaign and was claiming to be a candidate of PPP but PPP announced that according to Charter of Democracy, it will not file its candidate.
